Firemen lend a hand in dangerous snake rescue in Sherwood
The snake was first spotted by people walking along the pavement in Candella Road.
ANOTHER Green Mamba was rescued in an unusual area last week, this time in Candella Road, Sherwood, not an area they naturally occur in.

This comes after Nick Evans from KwaZulu-Natal Amphibian and Reptile Conservation rescued a Green Mamba from a tree in the Essenwood area at the end of March. He said Green Mambas are a coastal species, occurring in coastal forests.
According to Nick, people walking along the pavement in Candella Road spotted the snake lying next to the pavement, and watched as it promptly shot up into a tree.
“I didn’t believe the caller at first, but his persistence in trying to convince me that it was a Green Mamba got me and Nick Saunders to go out. It was right at the top of a very high tree, about 7m to 9m up. We called the Fire Department again, as we did for the Berea Green Mamba, and I was delighted to see my friend I made last time around, Reagan,” said Nick.
They got their ladder up into the tree, and up he went. He said it was an extremely difficult situation, and dangerous too.
“I needed Nick to come up and help me with a second set of tongs. We had a grip on it, but out of reach of my hand, and we couldn’t get it closer. After a lot of patience, bad language and shouting, we eventually got it. It was stressful! It was nice big one and very healthy too,” he said, adding that they could not have done it without the help of the amazing Fire Department, again.
