BEREA SAPS officers arrested hired hit men wanted for crimes in the Sydenham area on 27 March.
According to Capt Poobalan Naidoo from Berea SAPS, at around 1am on 27 March, W/O J Pillay and W/O B Nundlall were patrolling in Lilian Ngoyi (Windermere) Road when they came across a blue VW Polo parked on the side of the road.
“On investigation they noticed a woman driver who said she was taking her friends home. As the vehicle drove off W/O Pillay heard metal falling on the road. He got out of the vehicle to investigate and found a pistol on the road where the polo was parked,” said Naidoo.
The officers followed the Polo and pulled it over at the intersection of Claribel and Lilian Ngoyi Roads.

“The occupants were ordered to get out of the vehicle and lie on the ground. The three men in the car were searched and Pillay searched the vehicle and found another firearm under the rear left seat with a full magazine and ready to fire. He then called for assistance from the crime prevention members,” said Naidoo.
He said as the woman suspect was put into the police vehicle Pillay noticed live ammunition in her leg stockings.
He called for assistance from women officers on duty to search her, and six live rounds were found in her underwear.
“It was later established that the suspects were hired hitmen and were wanted for various crimes in the Sydenham area including attempted murder, murder, robbery and shooting police officers. They were arrested and detained,” he said.
