Tafta elderly in dire need

Making a donation online will play a vital role in the fight against Covid-19 in Tafta's homes.

THE community is encouraged to make donations to help the elderly in Tafta’s homes during lockdown.

Femada Shamam, CEO of Tafta, said making a donation online will play a vital role in the fight against Covid-19 in the homes.

“Our vulnerable elders have never needed your help more. Please join us in doing everything we can to keep them safe during this difficult and anxious time. It’s no secret that elderly people are most at risk from the coronavirus,” she said.

Femada said the greatest weapon is to prevent the virus from entering the homes, and this comes at a cost Tafta can ill afford.

“We have had to employ extra staff – and those locked down on the premises need to be fed. It means an extra 50 loaves of bread alone over this period. Plus all the other essentials like tea, milk, sugar, eggs, cereals and porridge, meat, veggies and canned goods,” she said.

Femada said Tafta has also had to buy extra safety items such as sanitisers, gloves and masks – and more hygiene products, including soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, incontinence products, washing powder, bleach and general household cleaners.

If you can help with funds to help Tafta sustain its homes during this difficult time, donate online at https://www.tafta.org.za/donate.html
