Bank assists the elderly

Al Baraka assists the elderly to safeguard themselves against Covid-19.

IN an effort to assist in protecting South Africa’s most vulnerable community members from the effects of Covid-19, Al Baraka Bank has donated Dettol soap packs to more than 2 000 residents in a number of homes for the elderly in Durban.

“In this time of crisis, we – as a business – believe we have a role to play in helping to protect our most vulnerable community members. Our often forgotten and neglected elderly community face the highest risk of being infected by the Covid-19 virus, given that many have compromised immune systems,” said Fathima Mohamed, the bank’s Sustainability and Social Responsibility Officer.

Facilities that will benefit by the donation included Tafta Homes, Baitul Firdous, Baitul Hifazat, Baitul Aman, Mary Asher, Stranrear Home and Newlands East Seniors.

Ithemba Labantu provided hand sanitiser products for the benefit of residents at the Mary Asher, Stranrear Home and Newlands East Seniors.

“Our initiative was designed to assist the elderly protect themselves from germs and thus avoid becoming infected by Covid-19. We have also provided the targeted homes with posters detailing useful information about coronavirus as a means of informing elderly people about its effects and the precautions to take so as to remain safe,” added Mohamed.
