Man spotted trying to break into vehicle

A man was found in possession of car breaking instruments near the Durban beachfront.

A man appeared in Durban Magistrates Court on 15 March after being arrested for being in possession of car breaking instruments.

According to Capt Muzi Maphumulo, eThekwini police spokesman, the 49-year-old man was arrested on Friday, 13 March at 6pm near Snell Parade, North Beach.

Maphumulo said the arrest took place after a swift reaction by Durban Central crime prevention members, who were alerted by one of the car guards in the vicinity who observed the man trying to open the door of a motor vehicle parked in the vicinity.

“The police reaction led to the arrest of the suspect who was found with vehicle breaking instruments in his possession. Police at Durban Central are encountering a number of vehicle theft complaints and the police hope to link this suspect with a number of cases,” Maphumulo said.

EThekwini Central Cluster Commander Brigadier Xhelithole applauded the police members for ensuring that criminals are put behind bars.
