Durban actress has sights set on New York

A 16-year-old Durban singer and actress is jetting off to New York city in July.

A PASSIONATE aspiring actress and singer is appealing for support to enable her to make her way to New York to perform at the International Modeling and Talent Association convention.

Durban’s Uminathi Nyaba recently went for auditions for both the singing and acting categories for a talent agency called “33 and Me” and was chosen to showcase her talent at the international arts talent showcase in front of Nate Butler, Blaze Johnson from The Voice America, the independent casting director of Tyler Perry Studios, Rhavynn Drummer, the founder of Ford Models, Joey Hunter, and the New York Film Academy Director of Admissions, Joey Zangardi-Dixon.

She was invited back to perform in front of 300 talent agents and producers at the International Modeling and Talent Association convention in New York in July, over and above being scouted to audition for a partial scholarship at the New York Film Academy.

International Modeling and Talent Association is a professional organisation of modeling and talent training centres from around the world, which meet biannually for talent and modeling conventions in both New York City and Los Angeles.

“I believe that sometimes a person just needs someone ahead to look back, extend a hand and pull them out of the rut and open doors that could change the trajectory of their future. Through this adventure, I am hoping to achieve scholarships from different institutions to enhance my acting skills, receive call backs from different casting agents for film acting, and I also want to be exposed to more insight about directing and producing movies, which is my ultimate goal,” she said.

Uminathi is looking for sponsors to help fund and donate towards her trip. Email uminathinyaba@gmail.com. See more on Instagram and Twitter @uminathiii.n
