Security guards arrest Morningside trespasser

Security guards apprehended a trespasser in Morningside.

CCTV footage assisted in apprehending a trespasser in Morningside on Saturday morning.

“The incident occurred when Blue Security reaction officers investigated a panic activation in Percy Osborne Road, Morningside just before 6am on Saturday,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.

He said a thorough inspection of the property revealed that a suspect had attempted to break in to the front of the premises but was disturbed by the alarm being activated.

“After viewing the CCTV footage and getting a good description of the intruder our reaction officers set off to scour the area in search of the suspect.”

The two reaction officers were successful a short while later when they spotted the suspect on Umgeni Road, apprehended him and took him back to the scene of the crime.

“The property owner was able to make a positive identification based on the CCTV footage. Further investigations revealed that the suspect had been on the property since around 9pm on Friday night,” Mathios said.

Durban Central SAPS members responded and took the suspect into custody.

“Investigations are continuing in following up on intelligence which might link the suspect to other crimes in the area,” Mathios said.
