Durban robbery suspects appear in court

The suspects were out on bail for a Berea robbery case and were linked to a carjacking incident in Marianhill.

KWAZULU-NATAL Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Khombinkosi Jula commended Durban police for the swift arrest of robbery suspects last week.

Colonel Thembeka Mbele from provincial SAPS said a man was accosted by the three suspects in the Durban CBD on 11 March.

“At knife point the suspects robbed the victim of his belongings, including a cellphone and bank cards, before fleeing the scene. While Durban Central police were conducting crime prevention duties they received a report that the man had been robbed and began searching for the suspects fitting the description in the Durban CBD,” she said.

Mbele said during their search, police spotted a vehicle in West Street with three occupants, and decided to approach them.

“The three suspects were arrested and charged for robbery and made their first appearance in court on Thursday. Further investigation revealed that the suspects were out on bail for a Berea robbery case and they were linked to a carjacking incident which took place last month in Mariannhill,” said Mbele.
