Call for submissions for Durban Book Fair

Young aspiring writers are encouraged to submit their work for the 2020 Durban Book Fair.

THE Durban Book Fair has created a platform for school-going children to express themselves in written form.

Submissions in the form of short stories, essays and poems with a South African theme are invited for publication in a volume tentatively titled, Mzansi Tales. Any South African language may be used. The word count should not exceed 2000 and be submitted to kirunaidoo2@gmail.com before 20 March.

All submissions should accompanied by biography of up to 50 words and a statement by an adult confirming that it is the author’s original work.

The final selection will be entirely at the discretion of the editorial committee. While the book will be sold by the publishers on a cost-recovery basis, no royalties will be paid.

Prizes will be awarded for submissions assessed by the editorial committee as most reflective of an Mzansi tale.

The book will be launched at Mitchell Park on 26 April. The Durban Book Fair is a volunteer initiative now into its third year, and is a citizen project to support Durban as a UNESCO City of Literature.
