Fun day creates awareness

Heart Kids SA, a non-profit organisation founded in 2014, held a family fun day recently.

HEART Kids hosted a family fun day at Munies Hockey Club grounds recently.

Heart Kids SA is a non-profit organisation founded in 2014 by parents of babies and children that have been born with Congenital Heart Defects (CHD).

On average, one in 100 babies are born with CHD, and in certain cases the defects are not detected early enough, or not detected at all. Many of these defects have no known cause and living with such a diagnosis can generally entail repeat heart surgeries and life-long monitoring of the child, by a range of medical specialists.

The main focus at Heart Kids SA is to create awareness around CHD’s and to support families along their journey.

“Our cause is aimed at saving lives, as many children live with an undetected heart condition which unfortunately results in their death. The more families we can reach and educate around CHD, the better equipped they will be. Living with a child who has a heart condition can at times feel like a lonely road, and we ultimately want families to understand that they do not have to endure this challenging journey on their own,” said Charlotte Lombard from Heart Kids SA.

At the fun day on Saturday, families got to spend time together, and children enjoyed playing soccer and on the jumping castles.
