Durban police nab armed robbery suspect 

Durban Central Task Team followed up on information about suspects involved in the robbery and one of them was arrested.

KWAZULU-NATAL Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Khombinkosi Jula, has commended Durban police for the swift arrest of an armed robber in the Durban CBD last week.

According to Captain Nqobile Gwala from provincial SAPS, on 29 February a businessman was at his premises in Morningside when men entered and pretended to be buying cigarettes.

“At gunpoint the suspects assaulted the victim, hitting him on the back of his head, took money from the tills as well as cigarettes, before fleeing the scene in their getaway vehicle. A case of robbery was opened at Durban Central SAPS,” she said.

Gwala said on 3 March, the Durban Central Task Team followed up on information about the suspects involved in the robbery and the vehicle was located in the Durban CBD with the driver inside.

“A 26-year-old suspect was placed under arrest for robbery. His cellphone was also seized by the team. The vehicle was impounded for further investigation, and more arrests are imminent,” she said.
