Health department confirms six new Coronavirus cases in South Africa

Of the new cases, five are from provinces outside KwaZulu-Natal, with four in Gauteng and one in the Western Cape. 

THE Department of Health has confirmed six new Coronavirus cases, bringing the total to 13.  Of the new cases, five are from provinces outside KwaZulu-Natal, with four in Gauteng and one in the Western Cape.

The seven confirmed cases so far have been from the group of 10 people who had travelled to Italy. 

“All the patients have now been advised. Those who are symptomatic have started receiving treatment. Some of these patients are already in hospital while some, specifically those who are asymptomatic are in self quarantine. Contact tracing has also started for all these cases,” said Dr Zweli Mkhize, Minister of Health, in a statement.

The minister revealed that there have been a total of 3 642 tests done for the covid-19 virus. 

Gauteng:

33 year-old male. Traveled to Italy and returned 1 March 2020

34 year old male and 33 year-old female couple. Traveled to Germany and returned 9 March 2020

57 year-old male. Traveled to Austria and Italy. Returned 9 March 2020

KwaZulu-Natal

40 year-old male. Traveled to Portugal. Returned 7 March 2020. 

Western Cape

36 year-old male. Traveled to Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Turkey. Returned 7 March 2020
