Shave, spray and give hope with Shavathon

Participants will be giving 'hope' to cancer survivors and loved ones by showing solidarity with them in the fight against cancer.

THE Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) will host the 17th national Shavathon on Saturday, 29 February and Sunday, 1 March at local shopping centres.

The theme ‘Hope 2020’ is apt, as participants will be giving ‘hope’ to cancer survivors and loved ones by showing solidarity with them in the fight against cancer as they stencil, spray or shave their hair or donate a ponytail to make a wig.

Maria Scholtz, CANSA Head of Sustainability said: “Funds received go towards CANSA’s care and support programmes for patients, caregivers and loved ones and we hope everyone will join us in showing those affected by cancer that they are not alone. Selfie boards are also available to share the fun and action with others while creating awareness of cancer and the need to support cancer survivors and patients.”

Go along to Davenport Square, Musgrave Centre, The Atrium and Pavilion Shopping Centre this weekend from 9am to 2pm to take part. Adults pay R50 and children under 12 pay R25 to have their hair shaved or sprayed. Wraps and hats will also be on sale.
