KZN women charged for defeating the ends of justice

The two women reportedly travelled from the Hluhluwe area to Durban in order to open a 'false case of child theft'.

DURBAN Central Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit arrested two women in the Hluhluwe area on Friday, 31 January for defeating the ends of justice.

According to Const Zanele Khomo from Durban Central SAPS, on 14 December the two women took a taxi from the Hluhluwe area to Durban. The women planned the trip together in order to open a false case of child theft.

One of the women was supposed to meet up with a man she had allegedly had a son with, however she did not have the son.

“After they were dropped off by the taxi they went their separate ways and the one woman came to Durban Central to report her son being stolen by an unknown woman, stating under oath that she did not know the woman who took her son.

“Further investigation revealed that the child who was reported stolen was not the victim’s child but was her friend’s son, and the motive was to lie to the father because the father believed that it was his son,” she said.

An investigating officer went to Hluhluwe and found that the child who was reported stolen was in the friend’s homestead. Both women were arrested and are to appear in Durban Magistrate’s Court for defeating the ends of justice.
