Time of the Writer Festival calls for young writers to submit stories

School learners are encouraged to enter the Schools Short Story Competition as part of the 23rd Time of the Writer International Festival in March.

THE 23rd Time of the Writer International Festival hosted by the Centre for Creative Arts (CCA), University of KwaZulu-Natal, invites high school learners to submit their short stories for the annual Schools Short Story Competition by Friday, 28 February.

Held in conjunction with the Time of the Writer festival, which takes place from 16 to 21 March, the Schools Short Story Competition is open to all South African high school learners and aims to encourage creative expression in young people while functioning as a springboard for the future writers of South Africa.

The competition is open to all high school students and there is no particular topic for the short stories. The short stories must be written in English or isiZulu, illegible entries will not be considered (typed entries are preferred), and short stories are to be a maximum of five pages in length.

Entries can be submitted via email to: Gumedeg3@ukzn.ac.za, fax to: 031 260 3074 or hand delivered to: Centre for Creative Arts, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Howard College Campus, Mazisi Kunene Avenue, Durban.

All entries must include the name of the school (contact and physical address), name of submitter (grade, age and contact details) and all pages must be numbered.
