Become a police reservist

People who have a desire to serve their country on a voluntary basis as a police reservist are urged to apply.

THE South African Police Service (SAPS) invites individuals who are physically and mentally fit and desire to serve their country on a voluntary basis as a reservist, to assist the SAPS in the fight against crime.

A reservist is required to work a minimum of 16 hours of voluntary duty per month. The basic appointment requirements are that the applicant must be a South African citizen between the age of 20 and 50 years, of which documentary proof must be furnished.

Applicants would be required to complete a health questionnaire determined by the national commissioner, at his or her own cost, which is to be confirmed by a registered medical practitioner. They should be medically, mentally and physically fit to perform duties as a reservist, and be of good, sound and sober character, for which positive background enquiries must be obtained.

They must fit the psychometric profile and must successfully complete any other test that may be determined by the national commissioner.

Applicants must be in possession of at least a senior certificate (Grade 12) or a national certificate (vocational) level four, of which documentary proof must be provided. They should be able to speak, read and write at least two official languages of which one must be English. Employment is not a prerequisite requirement but applicants who are employed will receive preference.
