Road closures announced as security measures are tightened for PSL game at Moses Mabhida

Police have said security at Moses Mabhida Stadium will be increased and road closures instituted for the game between Lamontville Golden Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs.

POLICE and other security agencies will be on high alert during the PSL game between Lamontville Golden Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, 25  January  at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Constable Zanele Khomo from Durban Central SAPS said planning between the SAPS, security clusters and the PSL has been on-going for weeks ahead of the game.

“A pro-active approach, which proved successful in previous games, has been adopted for this event. SAPS officers and personnel will be in and around the stadium as well as around Durban to tackle the problem of fake tickets and resale of match tickets,” said Khomo, adding that SAPS will continue with a zero-tolerance approach to fake tickets and resale of tickets.

The match will kick-off at 3.20pm and is expected to finish at 5.20pm.

Police and other law enforcement will monitor the event and ensure that there is peace and stability. Spectators with valid tickets are urged to arrive early as the gates will be open at 12.30pm.

“People coming to the stadium will be searched for any prohibited items and such will be confiscated. The public is warned not to take any sharp instruments such as knives, firearms or bottles. No alcohol is allowed inside the stadium and fans are warned against pitch invasion,” said Khomo.

“Motorists are advised to arrive early to avoid congestion at the parking gates. Make sure vehicles are locked properly, close all doors and windows, do not give car keys to any stranger or car guards and do not leave valuable goods in the vehicle,” she said.

Masabalala Yengwa Avenue and Isaiah Ntshangase (Walter Gilbert) will be closed in both directions from during the day until after the game around 6pm. Other road closure and diversions may occur from 10am, among others at intersections in the area/block bounded by Umgeni Road to the west, Sandile Thusi (Argyle) on the south, Ruth First/M4 in the east, and Smiso Nkwanyana (Goble) Road to the north.

Motorists are warned to stay away from the area around the stadium if they do not have tickets . Road signage will be visible for parking.
