Berea policeman faces drug charges

Police found an estimated 3000 capsules they suspected contained heroin, when they searched the vehicle.

A BEREA police detective has been arrested and was due to appear in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of heroin on Wednesday.

According to reports, the accused was on duty but had used his private vehicle to allegedly transport drugs to a noted drug den in the Shallcross area.

He was stopped by police who searched his vehicle and found around 3 000 capsules, which they suspect contain heroin, in his possession.

The constable is said to have worked for the Berea SAPS crime prevention unit before he joined the station’s detective branch.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele confirmed that a case of possession of drugs was being investigated by Chatsworth SAPS.
