Weather Service issues storm warning for KZN

The SA Weather Service has forecast severe storms for KZN today.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS ) has issued a warning of severe storms for KwaZulu-Natal.

The SAWS said severe thunderstorms are expected between 12pm and 11pm today.

Edward Engelbrecht, forecaster for SA Weather, said most areas of KZN would be affected excluding only Newcastle and Ladysmith.

“At this stage, it’s only a watch. There may be heavy downpours and flash flooding We are expecting risky weather throughout the region,” he said.

Engelbrecht advised motorists to avoid low line bridges and areas where there’s a high run off.

The biggest concern we’ve had lately is people trying to cross areas where there is flooding and underestimating the strength of the water,” he said.

The weather service said it’s expecting a rainy weekend for KZN, from Friday all through to Sunday.

According to the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, in the past month, more than 40 homes were damaged and 750 people affected in KZN due to severe weather.
