Surprise for little warriors

Toys R Us TRUpers recently supported a leukaemia awareness drive.

Toys R Us TRUpers together with the Sunflower Fund, spent a morning at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital’s paediatric oncology ward spreading a little festive joy and encouragement for patients and staff alike.

“The joy on the faces of these little fighters when receiving their wrapped toys was indescribable. This was undoubtedly an impactful and memorable experience for them, and we are sincerely grateful for the support,” said Xolani Hlongwane, Sunflower Fund’s regional donor recruitment and education specialist.

He said the children beamed with excitement when they were treated to early Christmas presents as well as a variety of activity packs to keep them occupied during their recovery.

According to Hlongwane, the rate of patients diagnosed with blood diseases was sadly on the rise, with a shocking 75 per cent under the age of 25 years.
“For most, a blood stem cell transplant is their only hope of cure. As such The Sunflower Fund proactively creates awareness and education about blood diseases as well as the process involved in becoming a blood stem cell donor. The fight against leukaemia and other blood diseases is all about you, your family, your peers and the community at large,” he explained.
