Glenwood residents call for ‘gag’ on noisy taxi shelter

There has been a recent bout of loud music playing out of cars and taxis just outside a building in JB Marks Road since a taxi shelter was erected.

RESIDENTS living in JB Marks Road, Glenwood, want urgent intervention to put a stop to the noise pollution generated by people and taxis using the recently erected taxi shelter in the road.

The concerned residents have approached ward councillor Mmabatho Tembe to compalain about the loud music played out of cars and taxis just outside their building since the shelter was erected.

“My concern is the noise and drug usage at the site. I am all for the taxis having a place to pick up and drop off people, but I think it is very important to keep the area clean. We need to have police man this area on a regular basis and stop congregations of people, smoking dagga and making a noise with their music,” said resident Brandon Jooste, adding that to make matters worse, St Augustine’s Hospital was over the road from the shelter, and there was absolutely no consideration taken to heart for patients.

Another resident in the building said the issue had been going on for months, all day and all night.

“This is degrading the whole area not to mention the fact that we have young children. The men urinate against our walls, drink in public, smoke dagga and cars hoot. I have opened a case with the Metro Police Control Room and we will continue to report this,” she said.

In response to queries by Berea Mail, Councillor Tembe said she was waiting on a response from Metro Police. Metro Police spokesperson Snr Supt Parboo Sewpersad said the matter had been referred to a Metro officers for attention.
