Cassidy receives royal recognition

The award involved attaining 48 hours of service.

EDEN College’s Cassidy Gaylard has won an award endorsed by Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh, called the Silver Duke of Edinburgh/Presidents Award.

The award involved attaining 48 hours of service, some of which was done through the school’s internationally affiliated Eco Schools Eco Club, one hour a week for six months of sport – in her case, dance – and one hour a week of learning a new skill – in her case, learning French.

Cassidy recently set off to do her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Presidents Award hike – 76kms through the uMngeni valley nature reserve, through to Hilton Estate and back. The hikers carry all their own food, clothes and shelter that they will require for four days and three nights in the bush. She was joined by other learners from Reddam, Danville, St Mary’s and Ashton.
