Arrest for possession of illegal firearm

A MAN was arrested for unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition on Wednesday, 4 December.

According to Capt PN Naidoo from Berea SAPS, at around 9.45pm Sergeant PP Gumede and Constable PGB Nkosi were on patrol when they spotted a suspicious looking motor vehicle on Venice Road moving towards Lilian Ngoyi Road.

“They approached the vehicle, a silver VW Polo, which had two occupants, a man and a woman. A vehicle check was done via radio control with no information given. They then stopped and searched the vehicle and its occupants and found a 9MM pisto, in the man’s possession for which he did not possess a license. He was arrested and detained for unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition at Berea SAPS,” said Naidoo.

A gun was recovered in the possession of a man on 4 December.

Man nabbed for attempted theft of vehicle

POLICE arrested a man for attempting to steal a motor vehicle in Currie Road on 5 December.

Capt Naidoo said at around 9.20am, Berea SAPS staion commander Col MN Radebe was driving along Currie Road when he noticed a man breaking into a stationary vehicle parked on the pavement.

“The man was seen breaking into a white Toyota Corolla while a grey Suzuki with three occupants were waiting for the suspect. Col Radebe stopped his vehicle and approached the suspects who tried to flee. He fired a warning shot and they all surrendered. He ordered the suspects to lie on the floor while detectives Capt R Lutchman and a few others who were passing by, stopped and helped Radebe arrest, search and detain the four suspects,” he said.

The men were arrested for attempted theft of motor vehicle. Car breaking implements were recovered, as well as computer boxes and a police radio.
