Three killed as truck collides with bakkie in Durban central

The jaws of life were used to free the driver entrapped inside the vehicle.

THREE men who were travelling on the back of a SUV bakkie have been killed after a truck collided with their vehicle at the corner of NMR and Battery Beach Road in the city centre.

Rescue Care paramedics on the scene said although events leadin up to the collision are still unkonwn, it appeared as through the SUV was turning when the truck T-boned the vehicle.

Three men, believed to be in their late 50s and 60s who were sitting in the rear of the bakkie were declared deceased at the scene.

One passenger was entrapped in the wreckage and rescuers used the jaws of life and other hydraulic equipment to free him and transported him to hospital.

The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries while the driver of the truck escaped uninjured.
