SA Legion awards loyal collector

The SA Legion Branch North Coast bestowed a Certificate of Appreciation on volunteer Ken McFarland.

THE SA Legion holds its Poppy Day collection every year on the Saturday closest to Remembrance Day, 11 November, in remembrance of those soldiers, men and women that ‘laid’ down their lives in World War 1, World War 11 and subsequent conflicts.

The Poppy Collection is done in and around nearly all the large shopping centres in Durban and other towns around South Africa. The SA Legion is assisted by the Memorable Order of Tin Hats, which is also an ex-serviceman’s organisation.

This year the SA Legion Branch North Coast bestowed a Certificate of Appreciation on volunteer collector, Ken McFarland.

“Ken is not a member of the SA Legion but has been collecting for the Legion in the Windemere Centre over the last four years from 8.30am on the Saturday through to 1pm. We are most appreciative of his dedication to assist the SA Legion in raising funds to help ex-servicemen and women in need,” said Peter Shattock.

If any member of the public is interested in joining the SA Legion North Coast Branch, they may contact the chairman, Skippy Michell, on 082 372 0000.
