Pet owner rejoices after dog is found

Rejoice was so happy that Roxy was reunited with her owner, she said she felt so good doing something that was so special to someone else.

EDITOR – My little dog Roxy went missing on the day my daughter landed up very sick in ICU in a critical condition. I was beside myself.

I posted lost notices and pictures on Facebook, WhatsApp groups, put up flyers, and went to the SPCA, all the vets in the area, and the pet shop. I drove around with Carey Potgieter and Heather Roos from the Bulwer Safety and Urban Regeneration Forum, calling out to her.

All the while Roxy was just up the road. She was found cowering under an old vehicle in a complex. Rejoice (as she asks to be called only), who stays in the complex, started feeding Roxy but did not know who she belonged to, as she was not on Facebook or WhatsApp.

Rejoice said she knew it was someone’s pet, and she knew they must be worried, so she fed Roxy and made bedding so she would be warm. But after a few days of her asking around and no one knowing whose dog it was, Rejoice contacted Heather.

Without Rejoice even telling her what type of dog it was, she just knew it was mine. Rejoice took the dog to Heather, and prayers were answered as it was Roxy.

However the moral of the story is the explanation Rejoice gave that was so sweet and sincere, and a lesson to many. Rejoice said as we must look out for and look after each other as residents in this community, so must we look out for the animals who live in or are found in our areas, as they are a big part of our community too. So people need to be kind, and not harm any animal they find running around our community, but rather try catch them and look after them until their owner is found.

Rejoice was so happy that Roxy was reunited with her owner, she said she felt so good doing something that was so special to someone else. So it was a good happy ending.

I want to say a big thank you to Rejoice for looking after Roxy and for alerting Heather, to Heather for fetching my dog, recognising Roxy and taking Roxy in until she could reunite her with me, and also to Carey and all the others that went out of their way to drive around and look for Roxy, send me messages, and share Roxy’s photos around.
