Durban’s Victoria named Miss Earth ambassador

Victoria Soutar said she felt extremely honored and humbled that she was awarded third princess.

GLENWOOD’S Victoria Soutar was named one of the Miss Earth Ambassadors at the final event at Tsogo Sun Hotels’ Rosa venue at the Palazzo at Montecasino.

The 2019 Miss Earth South Africa finalists from across South Africa gathered for an afternoon filled with sharing their journey, engaging and sharing their views on the current climate crisis both locally and as a global community.

Commenting on the event, Victoria said she felt extremely honored and humbled that she was awarded third princess, Miss Fire. The title was won by Lungo Katete from Midrand.

“Being the first time I’ve taken part in something of this nature it was nothing short of an incredible experience and learning curve. Having all the Miss Earth South Africa Finalists for 2019/2020 and supported by our lovely Nazia Wadee, Miss Earth SA 2019 as well as some of the other Miss Earth SA finalists and winners from previous years, in one room created a special atmosphere on the day,” she said.

Victoria, who is currently studying for her Masters in Agricultural Science at the University of KZN, has enjoyed an intense few months as a finalist. She and the other women have been hard at work with a mission to change the perception and understanding of climate change, the impact of environment degradation and the crucial waste, water and food security paradigm. Through the #WasteStopsWithME Campaign, finalists have been on the ground in cities and communities.

“I look so forward to working with the Miss Earth South Africa team going forward. I have no doubt that this is the start of a lifelong friendship with my fellow Miss Earth winners and Miss Earth South Africa team,” concluded Victoria.
