Durban artist makes waves

“From a young age, I knew my purpose and passion was music.”

A DURBAN recording and performing artist, songwriter and learning producer is making waves on the music scene.

Byron Gindra, (18), a former Glenwood and Redham learner, has always dreamt of sharing his music with the world. Byron has been singing since the age of nine and frequently travels between America, Bahrain and South Africa, doing what he loves, making music. Byron said one of his favourite mottos is “aspire to inspire”, and he especially wants to convey a message that even a regular kid from Durban South Africa can make it big.

“From a young age, I knew my purpose and passion was music. I attended the Drakensburg Boys’ Choir School in 2012 and this was where I was classically trained. I participated in the KZN Youth Choir in 2015, and after a lot of experience in a number of choir events, auditions, singing competitions, and showcases, I was scouted by Just You Artist and Model Management to join their talent agency. I was scouted by Kim Myers, international talent scout, to perform in her International ARTS Talent Showcase in Orlando, Florida in August 2017,” he said.

Byron was awarded second place out of the top 500 musicians from multiple continents. He was then scouted to audition for American Idols and made it through to the final auditions top 14 out of 6 000 in California and top 100 out of 60 000 in America. Byron also recorded his first single The One and two other songs in Brooklyn, New York in December 2018. The One as well as Friend$ are available on Apple Music, itunes, Spotify, youtube and all other music platforms.

Byron’s newest track is being released this month. Locally, he has been working with a number of South African artists such as Jacques Wake, Lucas Raps, Kaien Cruz and Geek Fam who are all hip hop, rap and R&B artists. He also has some surprises on the way – he recently finished a GQOM deep house track with DJ Stingray, which he is very excited to release.
