Durban police recover gun and ammo from truck driver

A suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition.

ETHEKWINI Central Cluster police conducted operations based on truck blockages between 1 and 2 September.

Const Zanele Khomo from Durban Central SAPS said stop and searches were conducted in the Umbilo and Durban Central area, concentrating on Umbilo where most trucks depart from.

“As a result, a truck driver was arrested on Sunday at about 6.30pm on Rick Turner Road in Umbilo. He was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition of 17 live rounds. The suspect was arrested and charged for possession,” she said.

Khomo said 19 suspects were arrested for various charges including drunk driving, possession of drugs, business robbery and possession of car breaking implements.

“All will appear in Durban Magistrates Court in due course. An operation is still continuing,” she said.
