Hospice thanks school for support

Vigie Pillay recently handed over a cheque for R14 000 to Hospice from Overport SRS Primary.

HIGHWAY Hospice has thanked a local school for its ongoing support.

Vigie Pillay, head of department of the foundation phase and fundraising co-ordinator from Overport SRS Primary School, has been raising money for Hospice annually for the past 25 years, spurred on by a passion to help the organisation in memory of her mother who spent time at Hospice during her battle with cancer.

She said the school started raising funds for Highway Hospice with the approval from former principal Yacoob Patel, and the first donation was R800.

Vigie recently handed over a cheque for R14 000 to Hospice, having reached the fundraising target this year. She thanked the staff, principal Zain Khan, learners and community for contributing to the cause, and enabling her to once again support the worthy organisation.

Although Vigie is retiring from the school this year, she said she would still continue to raise funds in some form of another for Hospice.

She was thanked for her efforts by Tamara Smith from Highway Hospice.
