Crime fighting strategy launched in KZN

A police operation programme aimed at curbing violent crimes in the province was launched in Durban on Thursday.

KZN MEC for Transport, Roads and Safety and eThekwini mayor elect, Mr Mxolisi Kaunda and KZN Police Commissioner Khombinkosi Jula launched a police operation programme aimed to curb violent crimes in the province on Thursday at Centrum Park near the ICC in Durban.

The Stabilisation Operation is aimed at targeting violent crimes and serious offences such as murder, rape, hijackings and cash-in-transit robberies.

Provincial Commissioner Jula says they will boost deployment of officers in the fields, move resources to an operational level and deploy dedicated teams to track down and arrest wanted criminals.

The stabilisation will focus on areas known to be ‘No Go Zones’ which Jula says are most affected by the ever growing crime pandemic.

In turn, resources will be shifted closer to affected communities.

Kaunda said he’d noted a fast growing trend that most crimes occur and are successful because police and security agencies are not always informed on time about criminality .

Kaunda assured the province of the effectiveness of the operation and is certain that it will yield positive numbers in the decrease of lawlessness in KwaZulu-Natal.
