Wheelchair for Tafta resident

The Catholic Order of the Knights of da Gama donated two wheelchairs to Tafta on Ridge this month.

THE Catholic Order of the Knights of da Gama donated a much-needed wheelchair to a resident at Tafta on Ridge in East Street, Overport, recently.

The Grand Knight, Nigel Hawkins received a request from Mrs Brendagh Pitt-Kennedy, a parishioner and a resident at Tafta on Ridge, enquiring whether the Knights of da Gama could assist a resident of the home with a wheelchair. “After some investigation and consideration, the Knights agreed to purchase a lightweight and a steel wheelchair, the former for the resident and the latter for general use in the home. At the handover of the chairs, the Knights got to meet recipient Beryl Patterson and her husband Gordon for the first time. It was remarkable to see how much pleasure that this gesture of ours gave,” commented Nigel.

He said an emotionally overcome Gordon was extremely grateful for the support shown by the Knights and advised that their quality of life would be greatly improved.

Joyce Thomas, a manager at the home, thanked the Knights of da Gama for their generous donation and advised that there was always a need for wheelchairs and crutches at the home.
