TWO suspects were arrested following a shoot-out with police on 26 July at around 8pm.
According to Capt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS, the Umbilo Trio Task Team were sitting outside the KwikSpar on King Dinizulu Road observing and monitoring the area following an armed robbery which had taken place at the Spar at the beginning of the month.
“While the team were sitting outside, two men came running out of the shop with bottles of liquor. When they saw the police officers’ car, they fired at them and sped off in a white Toyota Atios towards Mayville,” she said.

Makaula said the police returned fire and gave chase. The suspects were eventually stopped and arrested on Jan Smuts Highway.
“Police are investigating a case of attempted murder and fraud as the card which they used to buy the alcohol was fraudulent,” she said.
