Mandela Day celebrations for the elderly

Free hearing and wellness screenings.

MARKING Mandela Day, the Phumlani Dube Foundation, hosted a health awareness programme for senior citizens at John Ross Park, on Margaret Mncadi (Victoria Embankment) Street on Saturday. The elderly were offered free hearing and wellness screenings, dental exams, massages and manicures/pedicures.

They also received vital information about their health and were counselled on ways to reduce their risk for heart disease, stroke and other common diagnoses/ailments of seniors and the elderly. They were also armed with the tools they need to take charge of their health. “Our event was very successful and I would like to thank everyone who contributed in this great work,” said Phumlani Dube.

Nelson Mandela International Day is an annual international day in honour of Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on 18 July, Mandela’s birthday. The day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009, with the first UN Mandela Day held on 18 July 2010.
