Support Mandela Day food drive

PICK n Pay and FoodForward SA have launched the national 2019 Mandela Day Food Drive and invite all South Africans to contribute towards the ambitious goal of collecting 500 tonnes of food – enough to produce two million meals.

The food drive collection is currently underway until 14 July and donation trolleys can be found in over 550 stores across the country.

These trolleys will be collected daily and the donated food will then be sorted on Mandela Day by volunteers at six packing events across the country.

FoodForward SA will then distribute the packed food to its more than 530 beneficiary organisations nationally.

Food donations made at more remote Pick n Pay stores will be distributed directly to surrounding beneficiaries on Mandela Day.

Plant a garden on Mandela Day

THE QuadPara Association of South Africa (QASA) is encouraging the community to volunteer alongside them to plant flowers outside QASA’s new Victor Daitz Training Centre in honour of Mandela Day on 18 July.

The centre will be used for QASA’s work readiness programme, to give people who have a disability a chance to interact with future employers and colleagues in the work place.

“We want to have a beautiful and tranquil garden that will brighten up our members’ and visitors’ day,” said Ari Seirlis from QASA.

To get involved in the project, join in at 17 Hamilton Crescent, Gillits for 67 minutes. Take three plants and a bag of compost. Contact Ronelle or Thokozile on 031 767 0348 or email projectcoordinator@qasa.co.za or admin@qasa.co.za.

Get on the bus to Pitch and Polish

FOR Mandela Day 2019, WORQ is hiring a bus and will be taking 67 entrepreneurs to the ENGEN Pitch and Polish in Durban on Saturday, 20 July.

“WORQ is not just another co-working model, it is a culture driven community, visualised as an ecosystem. Our goal is to create contributors to the South African economy so that this great country may one day compete with first-world economies,” said Martin Hall, co-founder of WORQ.

ENGEN Pitch and Perfect is an entrepreneurial training workshop and competition where entrepreneurs can take their business to the next level, and are given the opportunity to pitch their business ideas effectively to an audience.

In the audience are investors and bankers who decide, on the basis of the pitch, if they would invest in the entrepreneur.

Pitch and Polish provides a great platform to educate and stimulate aspiring entrepreneurs.

If you would like to get on the bus and attend the Pitch and Polish competition with WORQ, email Deron at admin@worq.co.za.
