Windermere ‘warriors’ praised

A cash reward was paid to “Windermere warriors” who banded together to arrest a criminal at the centre.

WINDERMERE Centre management and Windermere Antique Fair (WAF) stall holders have praised security staff at the centre for their swift work in apprehending a thief on Saturday.

According to centre management, at around 11.13am, a WAF stall holder’s stainless steel folding flatbed trolley was stolen from the centre. At around noon, Enforce guard David Mchunu reported the missing trolley and the CCTV footage was viewed. A photo was taken of the thief which was then shown to various staff members along with the promise of a monetary reward for his arrest.

CCTV footage showed the man moving the trolley out of the centre via an entrance on Lillian Ngoyi Road.

Centre management said just before 1pm, two Checkers trolley porters, a Mr Zondi and Hlakanpho Nkosi, observed the man outside the centre near the Woolworths entrance trying to sell illegal CDs. They went to him and told him that they were going to fetch money to buy a CD and that he must wait for them.

The men reported back to David Mchunu, Enforce guard Clement Dladla and the centre management, and they, assisted by a few parking attendants, car washers and a Woolworths trolley porter, staged a three pronged approach and nabbed the man. Unfortunately the trolley had already been sold. The man was held at the centre until police arrived.
