Hurley Centre announces Mandela Day campaign

For Mandela 101, the Denis Hurley Centre invites you to join in 'Homeless 101'.

THE Denis Hurley Centre (DHC) has announced its Mandela Day campaign for Mandela 101, commemorating what would mark former president Nelson Mandela’s 101st birthday.

Last year the centre celebrated Mandela’s 100th birthday by bringing together a network of NGOs to share 100 ways to transform the inner city over 100 days.

According to Raymond Perrier, director of the DHC, this month the country will be celebrating ‘Mandela 101’.

“The term ‘101’ has become short-hand for learning about a new subject. So in July, to mark the 101st birthday of Madiba, we are offering ‘Homeless 101’. Invite us to your church, school, office, coffee group or book club. We will give a fascinating one-hour session to help explain more about homelessness in Durban,” he said.

The presentation will be by one of the DHC’s managers and also a homeless person, so people will get an authentic picture. There is no charge, although a donation is always welcome.

“Let us know the day and time that you want, even if it is a weekend or evening, and we will try and accommodate you,” said Perrier.

To book, email Raymond Perrier: raymond@denishurleycentre.org.
