Human remains found near Durban military base

He or she is unknown, and DNA testing will be done to find out the person’s identity.

DURBAN Central police are appealing to anyone who may have any information regarding a missing person, after a human skeleton was found in the passage separating the Public Works building and Military Base at Old Fort.

According to Capt SM Maphumulo from Corporate Communications, Ethekwini Central Cluster SAPS, the skeleton was discovered by military cleaning staff in an overgrown, secluded area between the buildings. Police believe the person died a long time ago.

“It can’t be confirmed at this stage how he or she died and no one has come forward so far regarding a missing person,” he said, adding that DNA testing would be done on the skeleton to determine its identity.

He said the case is currently under investigation and appealed to anyone who may have information regarding a missing person from the area around the military base to contact the police.
