Appeal goes out to help return slain delivery driver’s body to his Burundi family

A post on the Everything Musgrave Facebook page urged the community to help raise R26 000 to get Cedrick Musonera's body to Burundi.

AN URGENT appeal has been made on social media for the public to help get the body of Burundian refugee, Cedrick Musonera, (33), who was murdered outside KFC on Florida Road this week, back to his family in his home country.

A post on the Everything Musgrave Facebook page urged the community to help raise R26 000 to return Musonera’s body to his family and assist them in giving him a dignified burial and farewell.

Jean-Pierre Kibeho is the community leader who is co-ordinating Musonera’s return to Burundi.

Musonera worked for online delivery service Uber Eats and was at KFC to fetch a delivery order when a customer waiting in line allegedly became upset with him.

Jarrod Evans, precinct manager of the Florida Road UIP, said upon investigation it was established that an altercation occurred inside the fast food restaurant and the argument continued onto the pavement outside the premises.

The customer produced a firearm and shot Musonera multiple times. He died in hospital on Wednesday.

In a report, Uber Eats said the company was saddened to hear of his death and would be in communication with police and would support the investigation.

Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele said the suspect who opened fire fled the scene.

Berea SAPS is investigating a case of murder.
