Take note of Comrades road closures

The 94th Comrades Marathon is an up run, starting at the Durban City Hall at 5.30am.

WITH just days to go until Comrades race day, the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) Race Director, Rowyn James has confirmed that road closures will be effective over Comrades race weekend, Saturday 8 and Sunday, 9 June.

The 94th Comrades Marathon is an up run, starting at the Durban City Hall at 5.30am and finishing 12 hours later at the Scottsville Racecourse in Pietermaritzburg. This will be the 48th up run.

At the weekend, Dr Pixley Ka Seme (West) Street between Dorothy Nyembe (Gardiner) Street and Samora Machel (Aliwal) Street will be closed from 5pm on 8 June, and will open at 7am on 9 June.

Samora Machel (Aliwal) Street between Monty Naicker (Pine) Street and Anton Lembede (Smith) Street will close at midnight on 9 June and will re-open at 7am.

On 9 June, Sherwood – 45th Cutting will close at 4am and will open at 7.30am, Cowies Hill will close at 4.30am and open at 8.30am, Pinetown and Fields Hill will close at 4.45am and open at 9.15am, Kloof will close at 5am and open at 10am, Hillcrest will close at 5.30am and open at 11am, Botha’s Hill will close at 5.40am and open at 11.30am.

Further up the route, Drummond will close at 6am and open at 12.30pm, Cato Ridge will close at 7am and open at 2pm, Camperdown will close at 7.30am and open at 2.30pm,

Umlaas Road will close at 8am and open at 3.55pm, Lion Park will close at 9am and open at 4pm, Ashburton will close at 9am and open at 5pm, Polly Shorts will close at 9am and open at 6pm, and in Pietermaritzburg, CB Downes Road, Gladys Manzi (Murray) Road, Cleland Road, Blackburrow Road, Fairfield Avenue, Ridge Road, Harwin Road and Taylor Road will close at 9am and open at 6.30pm.
