SAPS commemorates Child Protection Week

Child Protection Week is commemorated each year between 28 May and 4 June.

DURBAN Central Child Social Crime Prevention Unit together with the Protection, Family and Sexual Offences Unit commemorated Child Protection Week with a visit to the Makabongwe Pre-Primary School in Durban on 4 June.

Const Zanele Khomo said the aim was to empower the children about safety measures including police emergency numbers, the reality of rape, how to walk in groups and safety when crossing at traffic lights.

“Child Protection Week, which is commemorated each year between 28 May and 4 June, focuses on emphasising that children should not have a sense of fear,” she said. Children were given fruit and some stationery they need to use at school.
