Man killed in botched hijacking

The armed suspect fired at the victim twice hitting him in his upper arm, and accidentally shot one of his accomplices in the chest.

AN alleged hijacker was killed after he was shot in the chest in an attempted hijacking in King Dinuzulu (Berea) Road on Friday evening just before 9pm.

According to Capt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS, a motorist was parked on King Dinizulu Road in his Polo Vivo when he was approached by three men.

“One of the suspects pointed a firearm at him and pushed him over to the passenger seat, while his two accomplices got into the back seat. The man struggled with the suspects and one of them tried to strangle him. During the struggle, the motorist managed to cause the vehicle to swerve into a wall at Berea Shopping Centre,” she said.

“The remaining two suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran away. No arrests have been made and police are investigating a case of attempted car hijacking,” she said.
