Man nabbed, appears in Durban court for unlicensed firearm

A suspect arrested for illegal possession of a firearm appeared in court.

A MAN, who was charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, appeared in Durban Magistrate’s Court last week.

The suspect was arrested by Durban Central police on 22 April at Julius Nyerere Avenue when police were doing a stop and search operation.

“It is alleged the police stopped the group of four men, and the suspect pulled away from the group and attempted to flee. The police gave chase and subsequently caught the suspect who was found in possession of a Browning 9mm firearm with five live rounds. The suspect had no permit or licence for the firearm and ammunition,” said Capt SM Maphumulo from eThekwini Central Cluster SAPS corporate communications.

The suspect appeared in court and the case was remanded for further investigation.
