Umbilo saps track, arrest armed robbers

Umbilo SAPS officers arrested men who held up people in an Umbilo tearoom and a hair salon in Umbilo Road.

UMBILO SAPS officers arrested suspects involved in armed robberies in the Umbilo area.

According to Capt Pumzile Makaula, at around 7am on 18 April, three armed men walked into Saverite Supermarket in Glenmore and pointed firearms at the owner and employees.

“The men demanded cash and got away in a van. Information led the Umbilo Task Team to the arrest of the suspects and one woman, an employee at the store, in Umlazi,” she said.

In another incident on 25 April, two men walked into a hair salon in Umbilo Road and held up the owner and clients with a firearm.

“The men demanded cash and cellphones and got away on foot. Crime prevention officers, who were patrolling in the area, arrested one suspect and recovered a firearm,” said Makaula.
