Durban: Suspect arrested for illegal trading of gold

The police followed up on information regarding the illegal trade which was being conducted by a suspect.

DURBAN Central SAPS arrested a 37-year-old man for illegally trading in gold at the Regal Hotel in Durban on 17 April.

According to Capt SM Maphumulo from the eThekwini Central Cluster SAPS corporate communications, the police followed up on information regarding the illegal trade which was being conducted by a suspect.

“The suspect was found by police in his room after being tipped off. The police found the suspect in possession of 3kg of gold nuggets in a bag. The suspect is suspected of illegally trading the precious stones,” he said.

Maphumulo said the police arrested the suspect for fraud in relation to the Precious Stones Act and he is in custody for further investigation.
