SA National Society visits Musgrave sites

There were three presentations during these visits to Musgrave sites.

THE South African National Society (SANS) hosted visits to the old St Thomas’ Church and Ridge Road Cemetery in Musgrave, Durban recently.

There were three presentations during these visits, two by Professor Emeritus George Devenish, dealing with Allen Gardiner and his abortive attempt to set up a church on the Berea during the period 1835 to 1836, and on the history of St Thomas’ Church. Retired Colonel Pat Acutt also spoke about his family members and some other well-known persons who are buried at the Ridge Road Cemetery.

The group had an opportunity to wander among the graves of some of Durban’s pioneer families, and then ended the morning with refreshments at St Clements, next door to the St Thomas’ Church.
