Roy keeps up with the times

Local pensioner Roy Wood has new clocks for sale.

GLENWOOD pensioner, Roy Wood has created a new design for clocks he has been selling to make an income over the past few years.

Roy said his other clocks, made from LPs, were not selling so well, and he realised he had to come up with some new ideas.

“Someone gave me some calendar pictures and when I was looking at them, I thought I could make some nice clocks out of them. I have only started making them, but I have already sold a few,” he said.

Roy has sold 150 clocks since he started making them to make a bit of money for himself. “I have only had one come-back, where a woman dropped the clock and buggered it up!” he laughed. He said his clocks have made their way all over the world, as some people bought clocks from him to take overseas to the UK and Canada when visiting their grandchildren.

He said it usually takes him around three days to make a clock, or a little longer if he has to order parts.

“I’m so used to making them now so it’s not too finicky for me, the biggest part is setting out the numbers as you have to be very accurate. I’m 97 this year and I’m still going strong. I do everything for myself, I just have to take it slow. Making these clocks keeps me busy,” he said.

Roy said he had previously tried to sell some of his clocks at a flea-market at his retirement home, and his daughter had a few which she would also be selling.

He said if anyone wanted to order a clock from him, they were welcome to supply one of their own pictures, or buy one of the clocks he has in stock which are already completed. He makes them in two different sizes and they can be wall-mounted or put on a stand. Roy also makes clocks on side plates.
