Durban municipality takes services to the people

These roadshows allow consumers to speak to municipal officials face-to-face and raise any issues or concerns.

IN its quest to bring government to the doorsteps of residents, the eThekwini Municipality kick started its roadshows at the weekend, with a local roadshow making its way to Springfield Value Centre on 14 April from 8am to 5pm.

A brainchild of Mayor Zandile Gumede, the roadshows were initiated last February and have seen in excess of 4 000 residents getting help on the spot on various service delivery related queries.

These engagements allow consumers to speak to municipal officials face-to-face and raise any issues or concerns. Customers can engage with staff from Revenue, Water, Electricity, Sizakala Customer Care and the City Integrity and Investigation Unit, Supply Chain Management and Metro Police.

Service units will be onsite and online to assist with all utility service related queries, update information, register on eServices and make payment arrangements for any outstanding accounts including traffic fines. Customers may also apply for a rates rebate should they qualify or simply check if their current account is in order.

Services on offer include revenue (account enquiries, consolidations, transfers, terminations, credit authorities and rebates to senior citizens), water (account enquiries, meter readings queries, water leaks and registration of water services), electricity (account enquiries, meter readings and checking of applications status), and Sizakala (any other municipal related services enquiries and employment application forms among other services that will be on offer).

Metro Police will be available for traffic fine viewing and printing, on site card payment of traffic fines, advice and arrangement of traffic fine payments and general enquiries. Supply Chain Management will also be available for all CSD/vendor portal-related enquiries and any City Integrity and Investigation Unit matter.
