Hijacking suspect arrested by Umbilo SAPS Task Team

Heather Rorick, Umbilo CPF chair, said Task Team members responded to the hijacking complaint and tracked the vehicle to J Section in Umlazi.

THE Umbilo SAPS Task Team arrested a man who was involved in a hijacking in Umbilo on Wednesday afternoon.
The arrest came after a man had parked his car and was going into a shop on Bartle Road, Umbilo, at around 1.30pm, when he was approached by three men. One of them produced a firearm and demanded the man’s car keys. They also robbed him of cash, his wedding ring and cellphone.
They drove off in the man’s car.
Heather Rorick, Umbilo CPF chair, said Task Team members responded to the complaint and tracked the vehicle to J Section in Umlazi.
“As members approached the vehicle, they saw seven men fleeing from the vehicle. The Task Team members gave chase, and managed to catch and arrest one of the suspects,” she said.
The man was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition. A white vehicle was parked behind the BMW, and could possibly be the vehicle used to transport the suspects.
“The suspect was detained at Umbilo SAPS, and a case was opened. Well done to all involved,” she said.
