CASES of sexual assault and crimen injuria have been opened by two teachers from a Durban school against their principal.

According to Capt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS, the complainants reported that the principal would call them to his office and ask them to perform sexual acts on him.

“It is alleged that he would also take some of the teachers to a B&B and force himself on them. He would threaten the teachers not to tell anyone,” she said.

“It is alleged that there are other victims (teachers) who have not opened cases as yet,” she said.

The docket has been handed to the SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Investigations Unit for investigation.

On Tuesday morning, the MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal, Mthandeni Dlungwane, visited the school and spoke to teachers and staff. Around 15 teachers met with the MEC to air their grievances.

Dlungwane said the principal had been suspended. The Department of Education will be investigating, and an acting principal will be appointed.
